Our trip 2013/2014

How many chances of going travelling with the WHOLE family does one have?

However: Life is what you make of it!

One part of our life is work. The other part is family! Thinking about travelling all together made us realize that time is running short (already!). Luca was at the age of 10 / 11 years getting close to the secondary school and subjects would get more demanding. Soon we would have to think about an apprenticeship and other stuff like the 'teen-age'. So ... it was the right time and we booked our flights to Melbourne Australia on October 24th 2013.

Australia was our dream destination for multiple reasons. We were looking forward to seeing the second part of our family again! Also the remoteness of the Outback was especially tempting to us. The ideal vehicle for us was not as you might think an ordinary camper but a proper 4WD taking us through various Outback-tracks! But 5 persons travelling requested a bit more than a car and a tent. - Or at least ... we wanted to do it in a more comfortable way.

Natasha's brother Oliver (and his family) helped us with the purchase of our Toyota Hilux and the Jayco Eagle Outback trailer. We were really grateful for this help!!!

Our rough planning took us (after Melbourne) to Fraser Island where we spent a couple of weeks. Then we - somehow - headed West to the centre of Australia and further along the Oodnadatta-track down to Adelaide.

But before we could leave Switzerland there were quite some things to be done such as getting new passports, buying flight tickets, applying for visas, sorting things out with school (a big thank you to the teachers in Ottenbach!), check-up @dentist, deciding over insurances, selling our black Touran, having the Touran road-worthy-checked by MFK, buying our SOS-device (SPOT Connect) and getting it going, getting the house ready, moving Luca's fish and the whole aquarium, informing neighbours and police, packing, saying good-bye to friends and family and many things more!

However, the most important things were done and we were also very happy that people at home took care of this and that! You guys were helping us a lot! Thank you very much Toffi, Brigitte, Timo, Gioia (including your families)!!!
